Your first appointment will last approximately 45 minutes where a detailed history of the difficulties will be taken. Once assessment has been made, you will be advised of therapy / treatment options. It is important to bring with you details of any medication that you currently take or have taken recently. You will be involved in the decision regarding your treatment plan. |
| |
This will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour. You will always be seen at this first appointment by Dr. Douglas Savage. It is preferable but not essential for your partner to attend as well. You will be asked about your general health, any serious illnesses or operations in the past, your lifestyle and any medication you take or are allergic to. It is always useful to bring along a list of prescribed medication and a urine sample for testing. |
| |
| You will have a limited examination depending upon your symptoms; this will include blood pressure measurement and a prostate examination, if a male patient requests this. The doctor then will ask for details regarding your sexual difficulty. |
 |
| |
Following this Dr Savage will explain why you have the problem, will discuss if any laboratory (blood tests are needed) and then will go on to discuss the treatment choices. The good points and the few bad points of each will be discussed fairly before a joint decision between the patient and Dr Savage of first choice treatment. |
| |
All treatments can either be purchased or prescribed by Dr Savage. Please remember that some treatments are available on National Health Service prescription, some not. Dr Savage will explain this fully.
If psychosexual therapy is chosen an appointment will be made with the therapist for a later date.
Many patients, especially male complaints, many not need a follow up consultation but these are available if necessary.
